Eye injury price premium for webdevelopers

I just quoted rebuilding a website that is a health hazard for programmers. The colors are so bright that it’s impossible to look more then a couple of seconds without going blind. Indeed, the colors are part of the brand positioning. But what about the poor developers? čÖé Maybe we’ll use a mild color for development and only when posting live we’ll replace the colors with the brand ones. This reminds me of an old question of mine: can you use a TV as a weapon? Can you air at some point a footage with a metal welding flame? Will that flame will be transmit exactly via the TV...

Friends in online, offline, both or none?

Until now, I was very proud that all my connections in Linkedin and Facebook were people that I personally know.Whenever a new person sent me a new connection request and I never knew it, he/she ended up in spam. But now I am reconsidering my opinion. It seems that there is an added benefit after all in becoming friends with people that you never physically met (and maybe never will). I’ll come back on this aspect, which I currently investigate. The funny part was that for my clients communities, I have no problem of this sort...

No-follow really means no-follow?

All sites needs incoming links to grow. But a lot of places where you can get those links have a nasty habit of having no-follow tag. In twitter for example, when you specify your web address (that’s showing you in your profile page) – http://www.twitter.com/cferseta, you can see a “no follow”. In blogs comments – no-follow (actually, this is good, because anyway a lot of comments are spam ones) Delicious – no follow Stumbleupon – use redirects and frames DIGG – follow! čÖé Google say it’s not taking into consideration no-follow links. But did he? My impression is that up to a point it takes them into consideration, even it backward links command does not show...

Why keywords like “lawyer” should not exist in a first time conversation

This morning I received a communication (very polite, I recognize) from a developer saying something like this: “My client phone (an insurance broker) is on your site. Please take it down. Otherwise we have a mandate to use our Lawyers” Indeed, I have several insurance sites, and in one of them there is a list with all Romanian Insurance Brokers companies, and there was also the guy that I was notified about. Also that particular page has top ranking in Google, so it gets a lot of traffic. But because the notification seemed very menacing, It pissed me off so much, so I deleted not only the phone number of that broker, but the broker itself. Not to mention my attitude to the guy that send me the notification is not one of the best. I am a very reasonable person and I would have listen the request very easy. But showing threat in a first time conversation with somebody you don’t know is not a very good way to start a conversation. It’s somehow...

Why google does not index all your pages

Google is not indexing all the pages, unless you have a site of 5 pages. Let’s say you have 1,000,000 pages, but google sees only 1,000. Where are the rest? Even after submitting sitemap.xml, still the number does not increase significantly. The reason is: the incoming links. More incoming links you have, more pages google sees. It’s a proven fact. So, get relevant incoming ongoing links. Not hit and...

Twitter spam finding

I just found something about twitter and its twitter spam. If your user (or your name) contains key words, with huge searches, then you’ll be followed in no time by a lot of spammers. While if your twitter name is niche, than twitter spam is much, much...
